This is a rough guide as to when you should be booking things based on the plan that you have 1 year to plan a wedding. The first thing to do is get engaged! This list is by no means exhaustive, but should hopefully give you a rough idea The main thing to keep in your mind is to book early anyone that is likely to be busy such as photographers. As regards booking the venue 12 months may not always be enough if you hve a specific date in mind, it depends on the time of year and how popular the venue you have in mind is.
12 months:
Deciding on type of wedding
Consider number of guests you wish to attend
Check your finances and prepare a provisional budget
Search for venues
Once you have found your perfect venue set a date - and make sure you have arranged the time off work!
Before booking the date make sure there is a registrar available
Book a caterer - remember the food is nearly as important as the venue
Wedding Insurance
6-12 months:
Book a photographer (and videographer if required)
Start to look for wedding clothing
Book a honeymoon
Compose a draft guest list
Give notice of intended marriage to relevant registry office
Arrange transport
3-6 months:
Order wedding invitations
Book musicians (eg. DJ) for wedding
Buy wedding bands
1-3 months:
Finalise guest list and send invitations
Finalise arrangements with caterers and venue
Order the wedding cake
Plan a wedding gift list (if required)
Ensure accomodation is booked for guests if required
Arrange stag/hen evenings - try to make it at least a few weeks before the wedding!
1-4 weeks:
Check all bookings eg. photographer, videographer, cake, venue, transport, food, etc.
Chase up outstanding replies and finalise list of guests attending and inform venue and caterers
Write speeches
Less than 1 week:
Try to relax!
Double check EVERYTHING and ensure everyone is aware of their duties
